VET LONH

CamboCorps volunteers journeyed across the scenic terrain of Bak Nim village—a location marked by a tragic history during the Khmer Rouge era. One of our notable volunteers, Ieng Sochea, conducted interviews with three elderly individuals residing in the village to gain insight into their personal narratives and alleviate the emotional weight they bear. The following reflects the details of these interviews.

Vet Lonh, aged 49, is presently employed in the field of construction. As a result of a traumatic shock, he has experienced significant memory loss pertaining to his past. Although he is unable to recall most of his experiences, he has retained a recollection of his responsibilities in his youth, wherein he worked in a children’s unit that was tasked with tending to livestock and performing agricultural work. Unfortunately, his education was severely disrupted by the Khmer Rouge movement during his formative years. Despite these challenges, Vet Lonh remains committed to his role as the eldest of ten siblings, bearing a substantial burden of responsibility for his family.
