Tauy Men

Moving forward, deeper into the forest, we visited (Grandma) Tauy Men’s house. Interestingly, her house was almost identical to (Grandpa) Tauy Nga’s house, as it is surrounded by tall trees and lush greenery. We noticed how there is an old tractor that is normally used for farming just lying around in the middle of the field. We greeted Grandma and sat down at a square table under a big mango tree, which provided us some shade and coolness. Another DC-Cam volunteer, Khun Vannak, who is 15 years old, conducted the interview with Grandma asking her about her basic information. Grandma Tauy Men is currently 76 years old and she worked as a farmer in Bak Nim’s village. She told us stories about how she was forced to be separated from her newborn child after she just gave birth, and she was told to work as a dam construction worker no matter how sick she was. She occasionally saw the Khmer Rouge walking a group of people with their hands and feet tied up, bringing them to get killed. She described how it was a terrifying sight and she was too afraid to even look. Once the country was liberated, she went back to her hometown and reunited with her family.
