Chhouk Tenh

Chhouk Tenh, a 59-year-old individual, presently engages in agricultural pursuits as a farmer. Reflecting upon the harrowing period of the Khmer Rouge, he vividly recalls the distressing experience of being conscripted as a young child to laboriously transport substantial quantities of soil to the Mlech dam in 1975. Unfortunately, his educational journey was abruptly interrupted, as he had only attained a limited level of schooling up until the second grade when the Khmer Rouge seized control of the city.During the oppressive regime, Chhouk Tenh faced severe deprivation, enduring meager sustenance primarily comprising basic provisions such as rice and corn. The scarcity of adequate nourishment further compounded the challenges he confronted in those turbulent times. Moreover, the haunting scars of his past were deepened by the devastating loss of multiple older brothers, who tragically perished under the oppressive reign of the Khmer Rouge. The lingering effects of these traumatic experiences persist to this day, exerting a profound impact on Chhouk Tenh’s psyche and overall well-being. The weight of his past, marked by untold suffering and personal loss, serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring legacy of the Khmer Rouge era and the indomitable resilience of survivors like Chhouk Tenh.
