Srey Mitt, aged 80, currently works as a farmer. During the Khmer Rouge regime, most of her family members, including her husband, were killed, leaving her widowed to this day. Her husband, a surgeon and educated individual, was taken away under the pretext of being sent overseas. Despite his refusal, as his wife was still pregnant, he was shown no mercy. The Khmer Rouge selectively spared the uneducated population, facilitating their control. Srey Mitt endured severe torture, including starvation and excessive labor, inflicted by the Khmer Rouge. She tragically lost two loved ones to the regime—her husband and child.
