After a delightful lunch, the villagers were honored with a visit to the Embassy of the Philippines, where they had the distinguished privilege of meeting with the esteemed Filipino Ambassador, Maria Amelita C. Aquino. During this significant encounter, Ambassador Aquino graciously extended her warm welcome to the survivors of the Khmer Rouge regime and conveyed her sincere appreciation for their presence at the Philippine Embassy. Furthermore, she delivered a comprehensive account of the historical relationship between the Philippines and Cambodia, emphasizing the enduring friendship and cooperation that has characterized their bilateral ties over the years. In addition, Ambassador Aquino underscored the paramount importance of education and healthcare systems in driving the development of the village. Recognizing this critical role, she seized the opportunity to inquire directly with the survivors about their perception of the fairness of the previous trial of Khmer Rouge leaders conducted by the Khmer Rouge tribunal. The ambassador’s genuine interest in their perspective demonstrated her commitment to understanding their experiences and acknowledging their voices. As the meeting drew to a close, the Philippine Ambassador expressed genuine enthusiasm and a genuine desire to contribute to humanitarian efforts in the Bak Nim community.
